Do I need a decoder?
Three questions. If your TV is already compatible, we'll tell you not to buy anything.
Question 1 of 3
Does your TV support DVB-T2?
Look for “DVB-T2” in the specifications, the manual or the channel-scan menu. “DVB-T” without the “2” is not enough.
Question 2 of 3
Does it also support HEVC / H.265?
It is usually listed in the video specifications. Not sure? That's fine: carry on.
Question 3 of 3
Have you tried an automatic channel scan?
You most likely need a decoder.
The new platform broadcasts in DVB-T2. A TV that does not support it cannot receive it on its own. A DVB-T2 decoder connects to the TV with HDMI and solves this, without replacing your TV.
No HDMI cable? Choose the package with HDMI. Want less setup work? Choose the ready & preprogrammed one.
Let's find your TV model first.
You'll find the model on the label at the back of the TV, in Settings → About, or in the manual. Search the model together with “DVB-T2” or check the manufacturer's specifications.
You can also try an automatic channel scan: if it finds the HELLAS SAT channel, your TV already receives the new platform. If you find it only supports DVB-T, you need a decoder.
You don't need a decoder.
Your TV supports DVB-T2 and finds the channels. If you lose channels as old transmitters switch off, just run another automatic scan.
Try an automatic channel scan first.
Your TV supports DVB-T2, so it most likely just needs to find the channels again. From the menu: Settings → Channel scan → Automatic → Antenna. Don't buy anything before you try this.
If the TV does not support HEVC/H.265 and some channels don't display properly after the scan, a DVB-T2/HEVC decoder can help.
Before buying, check your antenna and settings.
According to Hellas Sat, most problems are solved by checking antenna direction, cable quality and connections. Some TVs need the country setting changed. You can also try a manual scan on channels 35 and 48.
If your TV does not support HEVC/H.265 and the above doesn't help, a DVB-T2/HEVC decoder may solve it. A decoder does not fix antenna or cable problems.
Where do I find my TV model?
- Label: on the back of the TV, usually marked “Model”.
- Menu: Settings → Support or About.
- Manual: on the cover or in the specifications.
With the model, check the manufacturer's specifications for DVB-T2 and HEVC/H.265. If it only says “DVB-T”, the TV needs a decoder.
A quick way
Run an automatic channel scan on the TV. According to Hellas Sat, if the HELLAS SAT channel appears, your TV receives the new platform.
We don't keep a list of every TV model and we don't guess compatibility from a partial model name. If in doubt, ask the assistant or contact your TV manufacturer.
Update: From 10 October 2026 private TV channels start moving gradually to the new DVB-T2 frequencies. Velister's old system is not switched off all at once: small transmitters go first and the large ones follow. The aim is to finish before Christmas, with no exact timetable announced.
