Do I need a DVB-T2 decoder? A 2-minute check
Short answer: If your TV was made after about 2017, it most likely supports DVB-T2 and you only need to retune. If it is older or you're not sure, do the check below. Don't buy anything before you check.
The check in 4 steps
- Look at the label on the back or the model number. Look for "DVB-T2" or "HEVC/H.265". "DVB-T" on its own is not enough.
- Check the manual or the model's specifications online (search the model plus "DVB-T2").
- Check from the TV. Menu → Settings → Channel search. If you see a "DVB-T2" or "Antenna (T/T2)" option, it is most likely supported.
- Test it. Run an automatic search. If the Hellas Sat channel appears, you are receiving the new network (Hellas Sat FAQ).
Watch the country setting: On some TVs the "Country" setting has to be changed to enable the new system (Hellas Sat statement, July 2026).
What the result means
| Result | What to do |
|---|---|
| Supports DVB-T2 | Run an automatic channel search and you're done. Nothing to buy |
| Supports DVB-T only | You need a DVB-T2 decoder |
| Not sure | Call Hellas Sat on 22 000 737 or try the search |
Which decoder to get
Look for: DVB-T2, H.265 / HEVC, Full HD, HDMI output. Avoid unknown devices without specifications: officials said some low-quality decoders could not receive DVB-T2. See the guide How to choose a decoder.
What it costs
Prices we have seen in Cyprus (October 2026): around €33–39 in large stores, €30–35 according to news reports. At easytvcy the Golden Media Mania 828 starts at €25, €30 with an HDMI cable and €35 ready and preprogrammed (prices at time of publication).
What you need to connect it
An antenna, the decoder, an HDMI cable and a TV with an HDMI input (or SCART on very old models). See the setup guide.
